One of the NFL’s most heartwarming reunions in 2026 has ended after a mere three weeks.
Wide receiver and 2010’s megastar Odell Beckham Jr. has officially been released by the New York Giants. Beckham was a top story during the g-men’s training camp and preseason period, suiting up for the team that drafted him for the first time since 2018. Beckham had a serviceable preseason with the team which was enough to land him a spot on the team’s 53-man roster heading into week one.
It appeared that head coach John Harbaugh had no plans for him moving forward however, as Beckham played a scarce amount of snaps throughout the first three games of the regular season, only amassing one target on a throw by backup quarterback Jameis Winston last Sunday against Tennessee that was nearly intercepted.

Beckham quickly made himself known as one of the NFL’s most prolific wide receivers during his prime between 2014-2018, hauling in 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns in his first run in New York. Beckham was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019 for cap space and a fresh rebuild in East Rutherford, and following a tumultuous run in East Ohio, he was then traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. However, following a devastating torn ACL during Super Bowl LVI, his second of his career, Beckham was never truly able to recover professionally.
The former great had short stints with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 and the Miami Dolphins in 2024 before at long last signing a one-year deal with the Giants in the offseason to end his 8 year odyssey.
119 days after his return to where it all began, Beckham has been thrown back into the free agent market once again, and at 33 years old and a long injury history coinciding with his plummeting production over the last five years, it’s unknown if he’ll ever play another snap of professional football again. The release was believed to make room to keep fellow WR Braxton Berrios on the active roster following yesterday’s trade for former Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy, as Berrios has been highly active in special teams so far this season.
