The New York Giants will do battle with their cross-country conference foes, the Arizona Cardinals, in what should be one of the Giants’ most telling matchups of the post-Jaxson Dart campaign. New York was able to pull out an ugly victory against the Tennessee Titans last Sunday with very little offense to speak of from either team, which at the very least is a testament to the Giant’s defense. Big Blue is tied for fourth in the NFL, ironically with Arizona, in turnover differential with a plus-3 as Jevon Holland alone has generated five of his own (3 INT’s, 2 FF) on his way to winning NFC Defensive Player of the Month for his stellar September.
The Cardinals have struggled defensively in their previous two contests after an unexpected thrashing of the Los Angeles Chargers in week 1, allowing a combined 67 points to the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers in back-to-back divisional contests. Jameis Winston has now had two full weeks of practice with the Giants’ starters and having had head coach John Harbaugh writing gameplans around his (supposed) abilities. This will be a massive test for the 12-year veteran as his lifeline as a starter could be revealed when the dust settles on Sunday.
New York’s strength will most likely rely on their run game this weekend, as they face one of the league’s worst run defenses on their home turf. Arizona is 26th in the NFL in defending the ground game allowing over 127 yards per game in said category. Cam Skattebo and his supporting cast will look to have a monster day, as the Giants are one of the few teams in the league who rush the football on more than 50% of their plays.

The triplet group of quarterback Jacoby Brissett, running back Julian Love, and tight end Trey McBride bring with them an air of unpredictability for the g-men defense. Brissett has been far more serviceable than expected for Arizona through three weeks, completing 70 percent of his throws for four touchdowns and only one interception, although his yards per attempt average has only been at 4.4 yards over the last two weeks.
Love is the biggest question mark in the offense at the moment, only scoring one touchdown and averaging a mere 3.9 yards per carry in his first three games of his rookie campaign. The Giants will look to prevent him from achieving his breakout performance against their teetering rush defense.
The General Consensus
Don’t let their record fool you, this Arizona team is far more competent than the Titans. The Cardinals may not have many options in the wideout department, or have many explosive plays, but they play efficient, slow burn football, and McBride is a top five tight end easily in the league. These two teams rank third and fifth respectively in offensive time of possession. While the winner of this game will most likely be the one to control that statline, the Cardinals have been the healthier, more efficient team so far this season, which unfortunately will play into this week’s final score prediction.
Final Prediction: Cardinals-27 Giants-20
