Well, a win is a win we suppose. The New York Giants defeated the Tennessee Titans 12-7 yesterday in an ugly contest played in the middle of a nor’easter which has been ravaging the New Jersey/New York area for several days.
Defense and special teams won the day for big blue, particularly due to the combined efforts of safety Jevon Holland, kicker Dominic Zvada, and punter Jordan Stout. Stout has been stellar throughout the first quarter of the season for New York thus far, and on Sunday afternoon he played his role as well as any punter in the league could have. The former Raven punted six times for an average of 50.5 yards per punt and a long of 78, with three of them landing inside the Titans 20 yard line. With the weather hindering the ability for either team to score throughout most of the day, Stout’s leg prevented the Titans from gaining any positive field momentum for most of their drives.
Zvada, meanwhile, has proven himself to be a massive asset in his rookie season with the g-men. The former Michigan Wolverine placed all four of his field goal attempts between the uprights to ensure that the Titans’ late-game surge would wind up obsolete. Zvada is now six for six on field goals this season, although he has yet to attempt one from longer than 39 yards. Despite the short distances of his kicks, his output could still be considered impressive due to the rainy conditions throughout the day.

Jevon Holland received the game ball from head coach John Harbaugh after another exceptional outing yesterday. Holland has been the most productive player on the team thus far, and added on to his 2026 accomplishments with a game sealing interception of Tennessee quarterback Cam Ward in the endzone to send the Giants to 2-1 one week after the loss of their franchise QB Jaxson Dart.
The General Consensus
Considering the strength (or lack there of) of their opponent yesterday, this win doesn’t come without its fair share of questions and criticism. Despite a few promising drives, New York was unable to reach the endzone despite spending five possessions in Tennessee territory. The run game looked serviceable enough, especially with the output of Najee Harris, who ran for 52 yards on nine carries.
QB Jameis Winston looked better than he did last week, although the lack of Dart’s scrambling ability was evident throughout this game as Winston refused to run the ball despite having open room to do so on a few occasions. You could make the excuse that the weather hindered his gunslinging tendencies as well, going 14/22 for 114 yards on a day that was dominated by run offense. More time spent with the starters during practice this week should only benefit the former first overall draft pick, although as we found out moments ago, he’ll now have to contend with a new trade acquisition from Minnesota in Dart’s absence.
