“The goal is to continue in good and bad, all of it”– Diane Keaton
It was fun while it lasted. The New York Giants fell to the Los Angeles Rams by way of a 28-6 blowout on Monday Night Football. The loss came at the hands of a major catalyst, as Jaxson Dart was taken out of the contest on the team’s first drive by way of two-man tackle directly to his legs. The Giants were never able to mentally recover, and a slew of injuries that followed ensured they couldn’t physically either.
Backup quarterback Jameis Winston played his worst football as a Giant in a game he was clearly unprepared to play, going 11/27 for 111 yards and one interception and posting an abysmal QB rating of 17.2. The offensive line completely fell apart after a serviceable game last week against Dallas, allowing two sacks and eight QB hits.
Defensively, the Giants almost immediately regressed to their run defense of the previous two seasons following Dart’s exit, allowing 163 yards on the ground and an eyebrow raising 5.8 yards per rush from L.A. Rams wide receiver Davante Adams had his best performance in the City of Angels to date, snagging eight catches for 195 receiving yards and two touchdowns against a Giants secondary that resembled a confused group of mollusks.
The only bright spot for the g-men could be found in the performance of safety Jevon Holland, who snagged another interception to follow up his first last week and also forced and recovered a fumble from Rams running back Kyren Williams.
Along with Dart, some of New York’s biggest names went down like dominoes throughout the night, as star players such as Brian Burns, Malik Nabers, Isaiah Likely, and Andrew Thomas exited the game either temporarily or permanently with major injuries in one of the hardest to watch single-game hospital fillers since 2017 when big blue lost a slew of big names against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dart is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with what is believed to be a sprained MCL, which is the best news Giants fans could’ve hoped for given the initial panic. WInston is expected to play in his place during that time, and will hopefully play better given time to prepare and settle into the QB1 role as he did last season. Timelines for various other players to return are still yet to be released. At the very least, the Giants’ next five opponents have a combined record of 2-8, and head coach John Harbaugh will look to teach his new team a lesson in dealing with adversity as they prepare to take on the 0-2 Tennessee Titans this Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
“We’ll learn a lot from that game,” Harbaugh said in the postgame presser. “The plan will be for that to help us become the team that we’re going to be moving forward.”
