The Giants surrendered their 7th consecutive defeat this season as they fell victim to a suddenly resurgent Dallas Cowboys 27-20 on this Thanksgiving Day game to bring their record down to 2-10 and are now the first team of the 2024 NFL season to be eliminated from playoff contention. Quarterback Drew Lock started in place of the injured Tommy DeVito, who hurt his forearm somewhere near the end of last week’s horror show against Tampa Bay. Lock played adequately in the start, besides a costly pick-six off a deflection at the line which was run back by Dallas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. Overall, Lock finished 21/32 with 178 and an interception but was also the teams leading rusher with 57 yards on 4 carries and a touchdown as he made a case to become the team’s starting QB going forward.

Lock showed obvious signs of frustration last week when it was announced that DeVito would jump ahead of him in the depth chart after the Daniel Jones fiasco, as did a very vocal section of the Big Blue fanbase who wondered why their $5 million backup QB wasn’t receiving an opportunity to play. While Lock got his chance, and may even play next week, nose tackle Dexter Lawrence might not be so lucky after reportedly dislocating his elbow this evening in a crushing blow to an already reeling defense.
The Giants did a porous job in terms of clean football, racking up 13 penalties for 98 total yards in losses, many of said penalties coming off of big plays for New York. To make matters worse, the Giants haven’t recorded an interception since their week 1 matchup with Minnesota, marking 12 consecutive weeks without such a mark which is a new NFL record.

The General Consensus
Ironically, in the middle of their 100th season in the NFL, we may be witnessing the worst version of the New York Giants in history. The constant ineptitude in playcalling by both head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen needs to end at the season’s conclusion, if not now. Bowen in particular should be released (if ownership has any sense) this week after another unmotivated performance by a defense that should be a top 10 unit on paper. This team tied for the NFL lead in takeaways in 2023 and now in 2024 find themselves 25th in that category. Major changes should be coming in the 2024 offseason as we continue to watch the league’s most unwatchable product fall deeper into their rock bottom state.
