In a contest mostly dominated by defense, the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the New York Giants by a score of 17-7. With the win the Bengals improve to 2-4 on the year while the Giants sink to the same record with the loss.
After an early career-long 47 yard touchdown run by Quarterback Joe Burrow in the 1st quarter, neither team would find points again until Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy willed his way in for a 1-yard score halfway through the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 7 on a 16-play drive that included two fourth down conversions for Tracy. The Bengals would take a three point lead the following drive off a 37-yard field goal by Evan McPherson.
The Giants blew a massive opportunity to potentially tie or take the lead after a missed field goal on the next drive and after a deflected slant route on a crucial fourth down in the 4th quarter. From thereafter, Bengals running back Chase Brown iced the game with a 30-yard touchdown run.

Offense
Daniel Jones had what many would call his worst start since his Week 1 horror show against Minnesota. Many believed that Jones had taken the right steps to better himself as he threw six touchdowns and one interception over the following four games, but he seemed to regress tonight, going 22/41 for 205 yards and an interception. The offensive line, while decent, got overwhelmed at times tonight, allowing two sacks and numerous pressures from the dynamic Bengals duo of Trey Hendrickson and B.J. Hill. Although keeping pace tonight in an entertaining duel at the line of scrimmage, Andrew Thomas had fits defending Hendrickson one-on-one, as Hendrickson racked up both of the Bengals sacks. Tyrone Tracy Jr. was the lone bright spot for the G-men offense tonight, with a gritty 50 yards on 17 carries and a previously mentioned touchdown.

Defense
Despite the loss, the Giants defense shined tonight. In the absence of Defensive End Kayvon Thibodeaux, the Giants added four more sacks to their collection for the season, which is now sitting at a still league-leading 26 in total. Cor’Dale Flott had a decent game in coverage against Ja’Maar Chase, allowing 72 yards on five catches for the Bengals superstar receiver, but Tee Higgins had a productive game with seven receptions for 77 yards. Edge rusher Brian Burns continues to prove that he’s been worth every penny for New York, putting up 4 tackles and adding another sack to his season total of three while tormenting Burrow all night long.

Special Teams
Giants Kicker Greg Joseph didn’t do himself any favors tonight as we loom closer to Graham Gano’s return to action. Joseph went 0/2 on field goal attempts tonight in high-demand situations. The first would’ve tied the game with 10:27 left in the fourth quarter, while the next miss, which would have brought the game to within seven points, could have given the team an opportunity at an onside kick with less than a minute to go.
The General Consensus
This defense is playing more than well enough to win football games for this franchise, while the offense fails to do enough to support them. The Giants offensive line has been leagues better than the product we’ve gotten over the last decade, but they might have to do even more to keep Jones comfortable in the pocket. Jones has shown flashes of consistency to this point in the season, but his talent ceiling may not be high enough to lead this team anywhere meaningful without a perfect product around him as the Giants await the return of rookie phenom wide receiver Malik Nabers in quiet desperation.
