The dust has settled and the house is clean. The New York Giants released over 20 players this past weekend as they prepare to enter the regular season with their final 53-man roster. The list includes a few surprising names none more notable than two former high-prestige draft picks who fans have been yearning to see cut loose for at least the last two years. Today, Giants Fare recaps the top headlines from this busy weekend as we all get ready for the games that count in 2026.

The uphill battle for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to make the final cut was steeper than most to say the least. Beckham came into the 2026 preseason with little to no credibility to present to the team in regards to his last four years in the league. The former 2010’s all-star was informed by head coach John Harbaugh upon his re-signing that his spot on the team was far from safe, and Beckham, in return, gave his all when presented with opportunities to stand out. Beckham caught seven passes for 76 yards over his three preseason games played, including a three reception, 53 yard outing against the Jets this past Friday.
Although the unfortunate loss of expected slot receiver Calvin Austin III may have affected Harbaugh’s decision to retain the Big Blue legend, Beckham is nonetheless a Giant once again, and will look now to compete for playing time as he looks to swim deep in the g-men depth chart.
2. Patience For Hyatt Runs Out

On top of everything else, it looks like Beckham will be wearing his iconic #13 on Sundays once again as fourth year Jalin Hyatt was cut from the main roster over the weekend. Joe Schoen had high hopes for the former Tennessee Volunteer coming out of the 2023 draft, as did most Giants fans who were still drunk off the success of a promising 2022 campaign. Outside of a deep ball in the end zone in a ‘23 preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, Hyatt has failed to score in the entirety of his three year career thus far and has only amassed 470 yards on 36 receptions in that span, and it appeared that even a new coaching regime was unable to inspire the 24-year old WR.
Hyatt will look to earn his keep once again as a member of the New York practice squad; a position little to no fans in 2023 could’ve foreseen him landing in so early in his career.
3. Time’s Up For Neal

Speaking of general manager Joe Schoen’s greatest demons, offensive guard Evan Neal was also cut loose on Sunday after a disastrous tenure in East Rutherford. The former 7th overall pick in 2022 came into the organization with all the expectations in the world on his shoulders. While that may have been too much to ask of anyone, Neal was unable to prove himself as a dependable lineman at best. The Alabama product spent three seasons at tackle to start his career; resembling more of a saloon door than a high end draftee. Despite a move to guard last season in which he showed slight improvement, it wasn’t enough to ensure his survival during what has been a massive overhaul in personnel this offseason. Neal will look to begin anew elsewhere in the NFL, most likely sticking with the guard position.
