Joe Schoen may have just saved his reputation overnight. In a stunning yet expected turn of events, former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is currently finalizing a deal with the New York Giants to become the 24th head coach in franchise history, despite also arranging visits with the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons.
Schoen left no stone unturned during one of the most important interviews of his life, bringing in Jaxson Dart to meet the biggest free agent coach on the market as well as receiving a personal endorsement from former head coach Brian Daboll during Harbaugh’s 12-hour visit to the team facility.
This is massive news for the Giants, who have been operating in a near state of comatose on a seasonal basis every year since the infamous Miami boat picture back in 2017. Since then, Big Blue has recorded a 39-90-1 record, with one playoff appearance to compliment. Speaking of which, this might be the most monumental day for New York since defeating the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round of the 2022 postseason.
Harbaugh will look to bring some variation of culture back to a franchise that has been sorely lacking in one since the departure of Tom Coughlin back in 2016. He was able to accumulate a 193-124 record (including playoffs) during his time in Baltimore, and oversaw many tenacious defenses for a majority of his tenure.
John was also the defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1998-2007, and was one of only four coaches retained by Andy Reid after he took over for Ray Rhodes in 1999. Harbaugh also has experience as a defensive backs coach under Reid, and that should play a pivotal role when managing a Big Blue defense that has been reeling over the last few seasons despite a high payroll.
Giants Fare will continue to keep everyone updated as the story unfolds. As it stands, Harbaugh is expected to sign a rather lucrative five-year contract.
