The fans aren’t gonna like this one. The New York Giants announced today that Joe Schoen will officially retain his position as the team’s General Manager as he enters year five of his tenure with Big Blue.
Although it was announced late last month that this would be the case, many fans believed it was only said as a public relations maneuver, and that the Giants would fire Schoen immediately following the conclusion of the regular season. Schoen will instead have control of the team’s roster moves for at least another year, including over New York’s picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Schoen has had a controversial tenure in East Rutherford to say the least. Although showing signs of promise early on as the G-Men won their first playoff game in 11 years back in his first season at the helm in 2022, New York has accumulated an abysmal record of 13-39 since that magical night in Minneapolis.

Schoen has become known by fans for his inconsistent draft selections as well as his baffling releases of star players including Xavier McKinney and Saquon Barkley, who have both infamously gone on to have career resurgences with the Packers and Eagles respectively.
If there’s anything positive to be said about the GM, it’s been his last two drafts, particularly in selecting key pieces of the Giants’ future including quarterback Jaxson Dart, running backs Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Cam Skattebo, and wide receiver Malik Nabers. Schoen will likely have one last year to fully redeem himself, as he saw his friend and head coach Brian Daboll get let go after a third straight awful season start. Based on the online reaction to this move, he’ll get no support from the fanbase either.
