Giants Play Host To Vikings: Game Preview and Predictions

The New York Giants will set the stage at MetLife Stadium as they take on the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday at 1 p.m. The Giants are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, and will attempt to avoid tying or breaking their record for most consecutive losses which they set last season at 10 in a row.

The Vikings, despite being systematically eliminated from the playoffs last week, have played excellent football in the month of December so far. After a pure one-sided beatdown of the Washington Commanders on Dec. 7th to the tune of a 31-0 final score, Minnesota put up an entertaining victory against the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday Night despite learning about their dashed playoff hopes earlier in the day.

On the other side, it’s been all downhill for the Giants since their improbable week 6 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. New York has surrendered 8 straight contests mostly due to a devastating string of injuries, midseason coaching changes, and worst of all, fourth quarter collapses. The Giants have a small three game window to begin building momentum and hope towards their 2026 campaign.

Despite some inexplicable cries for a trade during or before the draft, Jaxson Dart has been the lone bright spot on this crippled offense. The rookie sensation now has 20 total touchdowns on the year to seven total turnovers, playing extremely efficient football despite a lack of weapons surrounding him.

He’ll have to be at his best this weekend for the Giants to have any inkling of a chance to win, as the Vikings boast a top 10 defense in the NFL, specializing in passing and redzone defense, in which they are fifth and second in the league respectively.

On the other side of the ball, the Giants defense should have no excuses. Despite heating up over the last two weeks, the Vikings offensive unit is still considered to be one of the worst in the NFL. Minnesota ranks 28th in the league in total offense, although rookie QB JJ McCarthy has put up two of his best performances to date over his last two games, totaling 5 touchdowns to 1 interception over that span despite a noticeable lack of production from star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who is in danger of putting up his worst statistical full season of his career.

The General Consensus

Yeah yeah, we know, ‘we should lose out and get the No. 1 pick in the draft.’ We don’t agree with that masochist mindset. We’re going to get a high pick regardless so anyone thinking about outright tanking, kindly excuse yourself from this week’s consensus, we respectfully disagree with you.

Despite multiple matchup advantages, that hasn’t stopped the Giants from blowing winnable games all season. We hate to sound so macabre as a pro-Giants outlet, but this team looks completely drained as a unit. While many believe that this team has the opportunity to match the one-year turnaround of the New England Patriots, this squad needs to mature at a rapid rate as well as play more aggressively on defense, which has undoubtedly been their achilles heel all year. Teams like the Detroit Lions built successful longevity by closing out their 2022 season strongly despite being eliminated from the playoffs. Can the Giants do anything close to the same thing? If so, it will have to start in two days against a surging Minnesota squad.
