The New York Giants won’t have far to travel this weekend when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of their week 6 stunner. This Sunday will mark 17 days since the G-Men’s shocking upset over Philly on October 9th, and yet the entire landscape of each team’s season changed dramatically in the one game they’ve each played since.

The Eagles quietly limped into Minneapolis last weekend and triumphantly marched on their way out with a 28-22 victory thanks to a resurgence in their passing game, as wide receivers A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith each had monster performances, racking up a combined 304 receiving yards and three touchdowns while aiding Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts to a perfect passer rating on the day.

The Giants on the other hand, traveled out to Denver beaming with confidence and played as well through the first three quarters as they have at any point in the last decade, carrying a dominant 19-0 lead into the final period. We all know what happened next. Big Blue was embarrassed by their mile-high counterparts, allowing 33 points in the fourth quarter, the most any team has ever scored in the final quarter after being held scoreless through the first three in NFL history. Despite a monumental defensive collapse, Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart still shined against one of the best defenses in the NFL, throwing three touchdown passes as well as almost coming up clutch in the fourth quarter with a go-ahead running TD with less than a minute to go in the game. While his efforts ended up being in vain, Dart proved that he has all the potential in the world to be the face of this franchise for years to come.
The Matchup:

The Giants offense can only beat themselves here. Jaxson Dart runs this squad like a well-oiled machine when everything goes according to plan, especially when Skattebo does well after first contact while running. Despite the loss of star wideout Malik Nabers, names like Wan’Dale Robinson and Theo Johnson have stepped up in the passing game in his absence. The only primary concern the Giants should face from this Eagles defense is the presence of defensive tackle Jalen Carter and linebacker Nakobi Dean, who were both absent for the Giants victory over their cross-state rival.

Defensively, it shouldn’t and probably won’t be as easy as last time. While running back Saquon Barkley failed to make an impact in these two teams’ last meeting, as well as throughout most of the season, he’s due to have a breakout game any week now, and he’d love to have it be against his former team in front of his home crowd at Lincoln Financial Field. WIth A.J. Brown out for the week, the big defensive assignment in the secondary will be none other than Devonta Smith. Smith alone hauled in 9 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown last week against Minnesota, and always poses a deep ball threat. Finally, the Giants also did an excellent job containing Jalen Hurts last time out, and with a nearly identical defensive line to present on Sunday, they should look to contain the elite scrambler once again.
The Final Consensus
The Eagles have momentum. The Giants don’t. The Eagles are playing at home in front of one of the most devoted fanbases in the NFL. The Giants are walking into a proverbial hornets nest when it comes to ‘The Linc.’ This fresh new Giants core, however, has not faltered in the face of adversity thus far during the season. After Jaxson Dart’s improbable defeat of the Los Angeles Chargers in his debut, the Giants were soundly defeated by the previously winless New Orleans Saints after a series of offensive miscues. How did they respond to that dreadful performance? By trouncing their long-hated division rival soundly on national television. Although they came face to face with the ultimate heartbreak last week in Denver, the G-Men have yet another opportunity to prove their grit. After all, a 3-5 record in no way leaves a playoff push as an impossibility.
