Predicting Weeks 5-8 for the Giants

Copr. Big Blue View 2024

The New York Giants face some tough tests in the month of October this year, with three of their four games coming against 2024 playoff qualifiers. With a revamped roster and foundation for the future via some amazing drafts by general manager Joe Schoen, the g-men are poised to potentially stake their claim as a potential dynasty as we approach the waning years of the 2020’s. Today at Giants Fare, we explore and predict these four key matchups for the Giants.

Week 5: New York Giants @ New Orleans Saints

Alright, this might be one of the few games throughout the season that could represent a guaranteed W. The Saints have been left in utter shambles following the surprising retirement of starting quarterback Derek Carr. In his wake lies one of the worst QB rooms in modern history, with a competition expected between Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, and rookie Tyler Shough, who was most likely to sit behind Carr and learn while he continues to develop his skills. Shough was drafted bafflingly high despite his injury history and mostly unproven ability when healthy, as well as some embarrassing moments at the Combine. With an almost brand new secondary (which is expected to play well) and a new offensive dynamic that should leave the Saints mediocre defense looking for answers, this one shouldn’t be close, although the famous New Orleans crowd at the Superdome should give the Giants fits. Nonetheless, New York should win this one by two scores at minimum.

Week 6: Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants

Every man who calls himself a New York Giant should have this contest marked in a red circle on their calendars. The Eagles demolished the Giants at home last season, as they surrendered 176 yards and a touchdown to running back Saquon Barkley on just 17 touches. Although run defense will most likely become a main focus of the big blue defense this year, they’ll have no shortage of challenges dealing with Eagles QB Jalen Hurts and one of the best receiver tandems in the league in A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. Although the Giants have taken massive steps in improving their defense this offseason, the Eagles have one of the most perfect offensive units across the board. We don’t expect New York to come out on top, but at the very least this game should be competitive with an uplifted Giants roster.

Week 7: New York Giants @ Denver Broncos

Assuming Russell Wilson starts, this should be an intriguing homecoming for the former Denver signal caller, in the place where his career decline began back in 2022. Broncos rookie cornerback Jahdae Barron should have an interesting chess match opposite Malik Nabers, while Denver’s massively underrated offensive line (ranked 2nd in 2024) should prove to be a challenge for big blue’s shiny new front seven. Although few may give the Giants a chance to win at first glance, Denver’s lack of talent offensively outside of Nix should allow them to squeak out a gritty, defense-heavy victory. Look for New York to lean heavily on the Tracy-Skattebo combo in this one.

Week 8: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles

Brutal. If the Giants were to lose the first game against the Eagles in East Rutherford, fly out to Denver only to come up short, and then fly back across the country into Philly for a second meeting, there’s almost no way they can win, right? Well, history isn’t exactly on their side, the Giants haven’t beaten the Eagles at ‘the Linc’ since 2011. Wanna know what happened in that game? Some unknown second year receiver by the name of Victor Cruz torched the birds with 110 yards receiving and two touchdowns on only three receptions. This will most likely be marked up as an L for big blue, but that day reminded us that miracles can happen in the most unlikely of times, and we’re well overdue for another one.

Predicted Record During Stretch: 2-2

Overall: 4-4
