McCord to Visit Giants One Week Before Draft

The New York Giants are set to host an upstart mid-round name tomorrow as Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord will pay a visit to East Rutherford, New Jersey after meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.

The ACC record-setter improved his draft stock dramatically during his single season in central New York state, throwing for 4,779 passing yards (an ACC record) with 34 passing touchdowns (a Syracuse record) while completing an even 66 percent of his passes. If the Giants pass on a QB in the early rounds, and with the G-Men hosting another private workout for Shedeur Sanders, that looks unlikely, then McCord is one of the better options to add depth on a budget.

Most may dismiss McCord as a generic mid to late round gunslinger, but his conference records cannot be denied, nor can his finalist statuses for multiple year end awards, including the Manning Award as well as finishing 10th in Heisman trophy voting, the highest finish for an Orange player since Dwight Freeney back in 2001. If given the opportunity, McCord may surprise any team he ends up playing for with his explosive, high yardage potential, as he threw for over 300 yards in 12 of his 13 games played during his final college season including two 400+ yard performances.

Although it’s highly likely Big Blue will select their potential franchise QB within the first two rounds of this year’s Draft, it may be equally beneficial to plug other holes in the roster and secure this late round steal in a severely underrated quarterback class.
