Giants potential KC trade rumors amidst Rice injury

Rashee Rice, the standout WR for the Kansas City Chiefs, suffered a significant ACL injury after taking an accidental hit to the knee by QB Patrick Mahomes while the two were attempting to defend an INT return during their 17-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

This is a brutal injury for Kansas City as they, especially Mahomes, have been vying to find a bonafide WR1 since trading Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins back in 2022 and it seems that they’ve finally found their guy in the second-year stud out of SMU.

So you might be wondering: how does this misfortune half-a-country away affect the New York Giants in any way? It might be the perfect opportunity to trim the fat on a skill position the Giants are looking gluttonous in.

While the Giants have a plethora of wide receivers with tremendous upside besides Malik Nabers, who has already proven it by racking up a record-shattering 35 receptions through his first four career games as a rookie, and other young talent who have the potential to show flashes of brilliance such as Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt, the Giants community has been buzzing with potential trade ideas with Kansas City to fill a hole in their depleted WR room while Rice recovers.

One of these potential trade ideas has revolved around New York disposing of workhorse receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton, 27, has been the Giants leading receiver since his rookie year in 2019 but has never posted a 1,000 yard season in his career. With Nabers taking over the WR1 role in the Big Apple, and Robinson quickly gunning for the No. 2 spot with his uptick in production, himself being 2nd on the Giants and 5th in the NFL in receptions with 26, the downturning Slayton might benefit from life anew in Kansas City with an admittedly better QB.

Another interesting proposal frequently mentioned was sending Hyatt away. Sadly, Hyatt has zero receptions on 3 targets through his first four games in year two after an underwhelming rookie season. As hopeful as the Giants and their fanbase were about Hyatt entering his rookie year, it looks as though he may not be involved in the team’s long term plans, with Head Coach Brian Daboll’s recently-gained control of the team’s offensive play-calling barely if ever including the once promising receiver from Tennessee.

No matter which of those two they would ship off, New York would most likely be looking for draft picks as compensation for the deal to be mutually beneficial as we loom closer to the Nov. 5 trade deadline.
