GM Schoen Extended on Multi-Year Deal

The New York Giants have extended General Manager Joe Schoen following a successful offseason at the time of writing.

Schoen has had quite the odyssey of a tenure in East Rutherford since coming down from an assistant GM role in Buffalo along with then-incoming head coach Brian Daboll back in 2022. Since then, Schoen has overseen draft classes that have ranged from critically panned in his early years with the team to more well received rookie selections since 2024; including promising newcomers like Abdul Carter, Jaxson Dart, and the backfield tandem of Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy.

Schoen was also infamous for the role he played in the release of star running back Saquon Barkley for essentially nothing in return which later led to Barkley signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in a move that drew the ire of countless Giants fans.

However, Schoen was instrumental in crafting the highly successful offseason visit for now-new head coach John Harbaugh as well as following it with a plethora of cerebral free agency signings and draft selections that line up well with Harbaugh’s coaching style and ideals.

Although the financial details of Schoen’s contract aren’t public knowledge at this time, Harbaugh’s apparent seal of approval regarding Schoen’s work ethic and professionalism have paid dividends for the young GM’s survival after a tumultuous start to his tenure in the Big Apple.
