As has been exhaustingly discussed, the New York Giants are in the market for a new quarterback in 2025, and all signs point towards the draft to solve their problems under center. However, with the possibility of the top two QBs going off the board at numbers one and two (damn you Colts game), the Giants may have to adhere to the old homage, “beggars can’t be choosers.” While there are some interesting names to be drafted in the middle rounds, the G-men may have to look at the free agent market in search of salvation.

Enter Russell Wilson. The former Super Bowl champion had somewhat of a bounce-back season with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, making the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2021, his final season in Seattle. While Wilson has stated that he would prefer to stay in Pittsburgh, and understandably so, he won’t have a much say in the matter at the end of the day; and the allure of developing the potential of the young Justin Fields appears too much for Steelers general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin to pass up in comparison to retaining the aging veteran.

The Giants QB locker room is in utter shambles right now, and no matter which signal caller they choose to draft, that young man would benefit greatly from a mentor who’s been to the mountaintop before. WIlson, along with Sam Darnold, is one of the top free agents who will hit the market on March 12th. Unlike Darnold, Wilson has proven that he can retain a high level of efficiency for a long period of time and for multiple offensive schemes. Anyone looking to point at his infamous Broncos tenure as well as his last six games in a Steeler uniform would garner some excellent arguments, but statistically speaking, Wilson has never had a season where he has been his team’s biggest issue. Over the last three seasons where many say he’s struggled, Wilson has thrown for 58 touchdowns to just 24 interceptions while completing over 63 percent of his passes in 41 games started. Not amazing numbers, but efficient nonetheless. In addition, he’s also only thrown for around 213 YPG over that span, but that can also be attributed to a lack of weapons at receiver.

In his two seasons in Denver, his top wideouts were Courtland Sutton, who’s talented but not exactly elite, and Jerry Jeudy, who only really broke out this year after heading to Cleveland and forming an odd couple pairing with QB Jameis Winston, and in Pittsburgh he had almost nothing outside of George Pickens, who has yet to prove he can play at a consistently high level. A pairing with star receiver Malik Nabers may be just what both sides need for stabilization in each of their respective skill sets. If Big Blue can somehow land the 10-time Pro Bowler and sign a young rookie he can pass his wisdom to, the light at the end of the tunnel will be gleaming much brighter in the Big Apple.
